6M LP QSO - VK4ADC - VA2BAE Long Path
#1
Unexpected 6M DX today, 19 Jan 2022 : VA2BAE in FN46is to VK4ADC in QG62LG51, FT8 mode, 50.313, quick complete. Long path 24362.7KM / 15138.3 miles.

HIS DETAILS TO BE CONFIRMED .

I was QTF about 210 degrees, towards VK3/5/7 from the home QTH in VK4 (SE Qld).

Calculated LP QTF was 229 degrees from me. {I did try SP at about 50 degrees but no North American sigs.}

I think the QSO was copied on both sides by VK3MH, who can confirm the QSO happened, but who also reported VA7AE around the same time.

From a CQ call :
033615 -8 0.2 1447 ~ VK4ADC VA2BAE FN46
033630 Tx 735 ~ VA2BAE VK4ADC -08
033645 -9 0.2 1447 ~ VK4ADC VA2BAE R+07
033645 24 0.5 1365 ~ VK4ADC VK3AUQ QF22
033700 Tx 735 ~ VA2BAE VK4ADC RR73
033715 -17 0.3 1447 ~ VK4ADC VA2BAE 73

I have attached a screen shot of the activity at the time :

Maybe not a  terrestrial LP world record  - but close - and certainly seems to be the most recent !!! To be confirmed.

The opening made me visit SpaceWeather to find yesterday's info :  https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/products/planetary-k-index

I guess we will all be watching for more solar bursts to grab DX.   If we can do this now, I have high hopes that we will have much better DX-ing in 2024/5/6/7 nearer/around the solar cycle maximum.

Steve

I have emailed VA2BAE and still waiting on a response.   Will post outcome here if I ever get an answer.

It would be good to get first-hand information from VE3DS though.
